What is Application Maintenance?

Like any modern software, your app is built on top of various SDKs and APIs - essentially third party code which powers the low-level functionality. For example, in Android, the Jetpack libraries allow us to build UIs as well as implement features using e.g. authentication or the camera.

As these external libraries mature they add features, improve performance and address bugs and security issues. It’s therefore important to regularly release new versions of your app which benefit from those changes.

Regular new releases are also a factor for ranking in the app stores - where newer apps are more likely to be suggested during search than older ones. It therefore is of importance to your app’s earnings.

Additionally, as new phones and tablets become available, it’s important to check that your app will work correctly with them and to monitor for any problems.
